Joseph Akornor

Dr Joseph William Akornor is a urologist with Metropolitan Urology Specialist in Minneapolis, Minnesota who practices general urology but has special expertise in comprehensive management of urinary stone disease, application of endoscopic, laparoscopic and robotic assisted techniques in the treatment of benign and malignant urologic disease; with particular expertise in retroperitoneal laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Dr Akornor was born in Accra, Ghana and obtained his medical degree at Kwame Nkrumah School of Medical Sciences, University of Science and Technology, Ghana in 1995. He emigrated to the United States in 1999 and completed general surgery internship and urology residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in 2007 followed by fellowship in Endourology at University of Minnesota in 2008. After fellowship training he joined Wichita Urology group in Wichita, Kansas where he established a minimally invasive urologic practice which was one of the busiest in the whole of the United States till he relocated to Minnesota in 2012.

He has in collaboration with local urologists at Kumasi, Ghana helped provide urologic medical care and training to Ghanaians since 2004
